1861年5月7日，拉賓德拉納特·泰戈爾出生于印度加爾各答一個富有的貴族家庭，13歲即能創作長詩和頌歌體詩集。1878年赴英國留學，1880年回國專門從事文學活動。1884至1911年擔任梵 社秘書，20年代創辦國際大學。1913年，他以《吉檀迦利》成為第一位獲得諾貝爾文學獎的亞洲人。1941年寫作控訴英國殖民統治和相信祖國必將獲得獨立解放的遺言《文明的危機》。

1861年5月7日，拉賓德拉納特·泰戈爾出生于印度加爾各答一個富有的貴族家庭，13歲即能創作長詩和頌歌體詩集。1878年赴英國留學，1880年回國專門從事文學活動。
1884至1911年擔任梵 社秘書，20年代創辦國際大學。1913年，他以《吉檀迦利》成為第一位獲得諾貝爾文學獎的亞洲人。1941年寫作控訴英國殖民統治和相信祖國必將獲得獨立解放的遺言《文明的危機》。
《吉檀迦利》是印度作家泰戈爾創作的詩集。這部宗教抒情詩集，是一份“奉獻給神的祭品”。（不少人以為“吉檀迦利”是奉獻之意，其實是獻詩之意）泰戈爾向神敬獻的歌是“生命之歌”，他以輕快、歡暢的筆調歌唱生命的枯榮、現實生活的歡樂和悲哀，表達了作者對祖國前途的關懷。泰戈爾憑借該作獲得1913年諾貝爾文學獎。
